This emergency-based study examined patients who presented to two Edmonton emergency departments with end-of-life conditions.
This emergency-based study examined patients who presented to two Edmonton emergency departments with end-of-life conditions (e.g., endstage heart failure, cancer, neurological disease, liver failure and/or respiratory conditions), identifying their unmet palliative care needs, reporting on their outcomes, and exploring the access of emergency staff to advance care directives/planning.
About the presenter
Brian Rowe, MD, MSc, CCFP(EM), FCFP, FCCP, FCAHS is a professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the School of Public Health in the College of Health Sciences at the University of Alberta. He held Tier I Canada Research Chair funding in evidence-based Emergency Medicine from 2001 to 2018. He completed two terms as the Scientific Director of the Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH) at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (2015-2023). He Edited the textbook Evidence Based Emergency Medicine, has authored over 624 peer-reviewed manuscripts and has an h-index of 115. He was elected as a member to the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in 2015.
