Bonnyville Health Centre emergency department renovation
The Bonnyville Health Centre emergency department is being renovated so people in Bonnyville and nearby communities can get safe, timely emergency care close to home. The project updates an older space and adds more room to respond to growing demand. The emergency department remains open throughout construction.
This renovation will:
- help patients be seen and treated sooner
- improve patient safety, privacy and comfort
- make it easier for more patients to get care
These upgrades help ensure people can access high-quality emergency care when they need it most.
During construction
Some temporary changes are needed to support safe construction. Parking areas, entrances and walking routes may change at times. Please allow extra time for your visits and ask staff or volunteers if you need help finding your way.
These short-term changes support long-term improvements for emergency care in the community.
Timelines
Construction is expected to be completed in fall 2027.
Services and space upgrades
When the renovation is complete, patients will move through care more smoothly and experience shorter waits.
The renovated emergency department will include:
- a larger intake and assessment area
- more treatment space, increasing capacity by about 35 per cent
- a fast-track treatment room for less urgent concerns
- a bigger waiting area, with 20 new seats
- more privacy with updated layouts and new doors
- improved security, including a larger Protective Services office
- a new behavioural health seclusion room to support safety during crises
- an upgraded diagnostic imaging intake and reception area
- clearer wayfinding and signage throughout the hospital
All updates work with safety and security systems.
