Covenant Health is embracing innovation to tackle today’s challenges and create a sustainable future for health care through the Covenant Wellness Community, Alberta’s first community-based, one-stop wellness destination.
The first phase of that development, the Stelmach Community Health Centre in southeast Edmonton is now open and it includes several outpatient clinics and programs that have been relocated from the Grey Nuns Community Hospital. It also includes a primary care clinic, diagnostic lab and imaging, dental offices, optometry clinic, as well as other wellness services like massage, physiotherapy and more.
Upcoming phases will bring seniors' housing, additional health services and new retail to the Covenant Wellness Community, so more people in southeast Edmonton can get the support they need close to home.
“Covenant Wellness Communities are about a simple idea: bring care together around people, rather than asking people to find their way between services. That’s how we put our commitment to caring for the whole person into practice.” – Patrick Dumelie, Covenant President and CEO.
The model is expanding
Covenant Health and the Government of Alberta announced on Sept. 21 it will be expanding the model with plans to build a Covenant Wellness Community in Airdrie.
The new Airdrie Covenant Health Centre will house two new facilities, making it easier than ever for residents of Airdrie and surrounding communities to access a range of critical health services. A new Urgent Care and Birthing Centre will share the health centre with a new Primary, Surgical and Ambulatory Care Centre.
