The Alberta Breast Surgical Oncology group operates out of the Misericordia and Cross Cancer Institute. Oncoplastic breast conserving surgery involves treatment to remove breast cancer with a clear margin while maintaining breast shape, symmetry and long-term quality of life.
As a leader in the field, the Misericordia has one of the highest rates of breast cancer operations in northern Alberta. Our hospital performs 81 per cent of all breast reconstructions and 35 per cent of breast cancer surgeries in the province.
