Neonatal intensive care unit
The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) serves babies who need specialized care in their first hours to weeks of life.
Our NICU teams provide around-the-clock care for sick or premature newborns. Your baby may need our care if they have:
- a breathing problem
- a heart defect or condition
- feeding issues
- an infection
- jaundice
- other medical conditions
Visiting
Families are an important part of a baby’s care. Parents are welcome to stay at their baby’s bedside 24 hours a day.
We encourage parents to invite their loved ones to visit their baby in the NICU. Visitors must be accompanied by the baby’s parents unless arrangements are made with the unit.
To keep your baby safe, we ask that you and your visitors:
- clean your hands every time you enter the NICU
- do not visit the NICU if you are feeling sick
- ensure any children visiting the NICU are up-to-date on their routine vaccines
