                    Neighbourhood

We are located between Ermineskin and Steinhauer parks. Residents with rooms on that side of the building can enjoy watching the parks and activity. There are also walking paths near our centre and children’s playgrounds within walking distance.

We are close to a number of churches, including Southside Church of the Nazarene across the street and Southside Pentecostal Assembly down the block.

We are within walking distance from grocery stores and fast food. We are also a short drive away from South Edmonton Common, one of the largest retail centres in Canada.

There is an Edmonton Transit stop just down the block from our site. You can also walk to the Century Park LRT station from our building.

                    Community partnerships

We have partnered for over 25 years with our local public school, Steinhauer Elementary. Students from the school sang O Canada when our site was opened and dedicated.

Our local parish, St. Thomas Moore, supports us with a weekly Catholic mass.

Through the Covenant Foundation, we work with London Drugs’ Stockings Stuffers for Seniors program. It pairs local stores with care homes to provide residents with holiday gifts from people in the community.

St. Joseph’s has a strong volunteer program. Volunteers can do a wide range of things at our site.

                    Stop the spread of germs

                    • For the safety of our patients and residents, we encourage you to clean your hands when you visit. See our guide to clean hands for information on protecting yourself and your loved ones.
                    • If you’re sick, wait and visit your loved one when you’re feeling better. If you must visit and you’re coughing or sneezing, consider wearing a mask to protect your loved one.
                    • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, and then discard the tissue. If you don’t have a tissue, sneeze or cough into your upper sleeve or elbow.
                    • Clean your hands often with soap and water or hand sanitizer, especially after coughing or sneezing.

We acknowledge that what we refer to as Alberta is the traditional ancestral territory of a diversity of Indigenous peoples and home to Treaty 6, 7 and 8. We recognize and give thanks to the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have lived in and cared for these lands for generations, all who continue to grace these lands and all future generations. We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation and gratitude.
