What to bring to the hospital
Use these packing lists to help make your stay with us as comfortable as possible.
General
- Alberta healthcare card
- prenatal records from your health care provider if you have them
- health insurance information
- watch or cell phone for timing contractions
- camera or video recorder if you wish (you are responsible for its safekeeping and for charging the battery before you come to the hospital)
- cell phone charger
- a focal point (eg., stuffed animal or picture)
- relaxing music
- popsicles for the freezer
- snacks for before, during and after the birth
- package of chewing gum
For birthing parent
- toiletries
- front opening nightgown or pajamas (2-3)
- large sanitary pads (package of 36)
- nursing pads, if desired
- going home clothes
- nursing bra
- at least three pairs of underwear (can be purchased in the gift shop)
- pillow
For your baby
- Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards approved infant seat. Practice using the car seat before you bring it to the hospital. You do not need the car seat at the hospital until the day you go home. Review the car seat guidelines and FAQ.
- undershirts and sleepers
- diapers (newborn size)
- baby clothing for going home
- baby blankets, depending on the weather
- breastfeeding pillow
For your partner
- blanket and pillow if staying overnight (a bench or chair may be available for sleeping)
- shirt that opens in the front
- sweatpants and top suitable for sleeping
- bathing suit for labour support in the shower
- food for before, during and after the birth
