Areas of emphasis
We see the worth of every human being. And we are committed to serving people from all backgrounds, faiths and circumstances, especially those who are underserved or at risk.
Our areas of emphasis
Continuing care
We are a leader in continuing care. We provide care at every stage, from supportive living to restorative care, long-term care, dementia care and hospice care.
Our approach to care is based on our Living Our Values philosophy. This means we focus on cherishing your uniqueness. We offer you personal choice and find ways to meet your individual needs within the routines of your continuing care community.
There are a lot of differences in the levels of care offered. Whatever level you need, we have a community that is right for you.

Mental health
We are a leading provider of mental health services in Alberta. We offer 250 beds at sites across the province as well as support for outpatients. We also specialize in dementia care for seniors.
We take a person-centred approach. If you have a mental health condition, we will work with you to provide services that respond to your needs, wherever you are in your health journey.
Innovations
We are one of the first providers in Canada to use intravenous ketamine therapy to treat depression that does not respond to other treatment. We are also a leader in using electroconvulsive therapy for severe depression and bipolar disorders. For example, we are studying the use of a new form of electrical stimulation that does not require patients to be put under or to stay in hospital.

Palliative care
We are a leader in supporting patients and families as they face life-limiting illness and the end-of-life journey. We provide palliative and end-of-life care in hospitals, continuing care centres and hospices across Alberta, focusing on your comfort and dignity. Our approach is to help you live the best life you can with your illness and in your final days.
Palliative Institute
In 2012, we launched our Palliative Institute. It seeks to:
- help Albertans make informed choices about palliative and end-of-life care
- give caregivers knowledge, expertise and resources
- build capacity to address gaps in service in Canada
- increase use of advance care planning
- advocate for a strong national palliative and end-of-life care system
Rural care
We are committed to providing full health services in rural areas across Alberta. These services range from basic care from a family doctor to more complex care in a hospital setting and ongoing care in a supportive living centre.
We are working to give rural Albertans better access to health care. Our focus is enhancing:
- ambulatory care
- mental health and addictions services
- palliative care
- primary care, primary care networks and chronic disease management
- seniors' care and supportive living
- specialty and diagnostic services
