Brian Vaasjo
Board member

Brian Vaasjo has over 40 years of experience developing, financing and operating energy infrastructure. Until his retirement in May 2023, he was the president and chief executive officer of Capital Power. Under his leadership, Capital Power became Alberta’s leading developer of new power generation and successfully acquired and developed new power projects in BC, Ontario and the United States. Prior to that, Brian was executive vice president of EPCOR as well as president of EPCOR's energy division. He was also with the Enbridge Group of Companies (IPL) for 19 years, during which time he played a substantial role in finance, acquisitions and development.
Brian is currently on the board of Hydro One in Ontario, where he serves as chair of the Indigenous Peoples, safety and operations committee. He is also a member of the University of Alberta advisory council to the dean of medicine and dentistry and the University of Alberta external relations advisory council. Previously, Brian was on the board of Alberta Health Services and chaired the finance committee. He also served on and chaired the boards of both the United Way of the Alberta Capital Region and the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society (STARS).
Brian holds a master of business administration and a bachelor of education from the University of Alberta. He is a fellow of the Society of the Chartered Professional Accountants (FCPA).
